Shopping Cart Price Rules won't work, please help!

Hi I have a group of products by one manufacturer.

I wish to set up a price rule that allows you to buy two products in the same size by the same manufacturer and get a discount.

I've struggled for over 3 hours trying different combinations of conditions and rules etc. Can anyone please help!?

I can get a rule set up so that if you buy two identical products the discount applies:

-If ANY of these conditions are TRUE:
    -If total quantity equals or greater than 1 for a subselection of items in cart matching ALL of these conditions:
        -SKU is one of ....all the SKUS here....


-If total amount equals or greater than 1 for a subselection of items in cart matching ALL of these conditions:
        -SKU is one of ...all the SKUS here...

The above worked great, but would only work if the products were identical, as soon as I added another product in the same size by the same manufacturer then no discount was applied any more. I need it to mix and match....

And at some point I managed to get a rule where two different products applied the discount... Great I thought, I'll just make two rules that work in parallel, but after doing so then neither worked. And trying to combine them into 1 rule doesn't work either!

I even had a go at Tier pricing which didn't work too!

Is there any way please that if somone buys 2 of the same named product in the same size or two of ANY named product in the same size they can get discount in multiples. So if you buy 2 you get $5 off. If you buy 4 you get $10 off etc.

How do you include the size parameter in your conditions ? 1SKU = 1 Size?
Do you have an attribute for the manufacturer ?

I don't have anything in the conditions or rule for the size or the manufacture, other than just including all the SKU's of product in that size and by that manufacturer.

I've set the Discount Qty Step (Buy X) to 2 which seems to work - but again I don't understand why Magento only applies the rule when you add the same SKU product twice to the shopping cart and not products with different SKUs... I've added all the different SKUs in the rule conditions.
