Major Hangup with Installation

Major Hangup with Installation

Alright, backstory: Had a 1.9.0.1 installation, tried a backup and it crashed the system. Decided it was time to just install a fresh install. Tried the downloader.php and that lead to the basic store index.php and everything being "Forbidden Access" plus a 404 error.

So I abandoned the Downloader helper file, downloaded the full release, changed permissions to what the "After You Install Magento" article suggests, zipped it and used Cpanel's File Manager to place and extract everything on a remote server. I self-adjusted the app/etc/local.xml file to reflect the correct database details, and added Creare's .htaccess boilerplate. No other files have been adjusted from the full release.

Noooow, I've found myself in the position where 500 Internal Server Error is cropping up. I believe my file permissions are correct, I've used Creare's .htaccess boilerplate, the downloader.php system check gave all checkmarks for system requirements...

Also, to note, I'm failing to connect via SSH on Terminal, so hopefully there is a solution that doesn't require that to be fixed, too.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Major Hangup with Installation

Hi

My first port of call would be to check the webserver's log files to find out what is causing the 500 errror.

If you have admin privileges you can check /var/log/apache2/error_log (if using Apache webserver).

Re: Major Hangup with Installation

Quite often a 500 error means that there is an error in the .htaccess file. Can you try a default Magento .htaccess file and see if that works:
