Support and upgrades

Hello, 

I'm new to Magento and I would like to build extensions. 

However I do not find a lot of information about rules regarding the support and upgrades of extensions. 

Have I to run free support or can I offer free support & upgrades during 6 months before offering paid one ? 

Have you some advices ?

Hi,

As of now there are two widespread models for support and upgrades:
- free lifetime support and updates

- support periods: extensions come with 3-6 months of support and updates, then customers may extend or renew the support period for a fraction of the extension's price.

Both scenarios are supposedly supported by the upcoming Magento Marketplace, so the choice of the business model would be up to you.
