Category creation from Excel Spreadsheet?

I am building a website for a client...they are asking if everything can be created from an Excel Spreadsheet.  Can categories be created from the spreadsheet without first having to create them from the backend?  Anyone have any insight on all of this?  All help is appreciated.  Thank you!!

You can use Magmi with product import and create categories using Magmi or you can write custom import script for categories.

The default import profiles have customers and products but not categories.
