Is Magento Able To Do Filtered Categories

I have a Magento store which allows users to filter products by brand.

By default it shows a list of all the active categories on the left sidebar. (Its currently disabled in the above link so you won't be able to see)

I only want it to display the list of categories in response of what the products are listed on the page.

For Ex. In the above link, it should only show "Food" category in the sidebar, not all.

Its a bit tough for me to explain but I hope you'd understand.

It sounds like you have just described the functionality of "Layered Navigation".

This is standard Magento Functionality. To enable:

Catalog > Categories > Select Category > Display Settings > Anchor > Yes

If you template is configured correctly, this will display in your side bar, this will display all subcategories within your specific category. Make sure the products are added both to the parent & child category for this to work correctly.

-Parent  <- Product needs to be assigned 
   - Child

   - Child <- Product needs to be assigned 

   - Child
