Multiple Configurable Products with Same Simple Product

Is it possible to assign simples to different configurable products? For example, if we have a jacket that appears in different sections of our catalog, can we create a configurable for each instance that it appears (it may show in a different color/in a different image) but have the same set of simples assigned to each one?

These type of configurable products are not created but you can try with Magento Bundle product. May be it will help you out with your requirements.
