Sell in packages, run stock in units

Hey, 

 

I have a store with over 8000 different items. Each item is offered in packages of 2-24 units. I'd like to run the stock in units, but offer the items in packages, meaning a customer who wants to but item XXX will see it as a package of 4 pieces. If he choose a quantity of 2, he will get 8 pieces etc.. 

 

How can I do that while my simple products and stock are managed in units of 1?
