Organizing your Data Warehouse

Organizing your Data Warehouse

Your Magento Analytics account has different users, each using different metrics, reports and dashboards. What do you do as an organization to make sure that consistent definitions of metrics are being maintained throughout the organization?

For example, do you always maintain a single point of contact for any questions or changes to be made to your account? Or is it more decentralized?

Re: Organizing your Data Warehouse

Thanks, Akash!

Internally, we manage our data using many of these practices:

  • Everyone in our organization has access to an internal data dictionary, where our own core metrics (revenue, active subscriptions, churn) are defined using queries on the underlying data sources.
  • The data dictionary has subject matter experts for each data source, and changes to any key metric definitions are confirmed by these team members. Our team also has one member responsible for coordinating and maintaining the proper replication of data into our own data warehouse. That team member has operation control, but everyone in our org has the ability to use these definitions for analysis.

Curious to see how other businesses are organizing this workflow as well.

Re: Organizing your Data Warehouse

Hello,

Here you find some important features of DWH

  • A DWH is designed to support decision making process. Hence it is known as Decision Support System(DSS)
  • It analyzes the business transactions in order to support decision making
  • DWH is a container data
  • DWH is the process of developing a data warehouse
  • DWH is a read only database because it is designed to read the data for analysis but not for transactional processing
  • DWH is a historical database because it can store historical business information

Thanks.

Re: Organizing your Data Warehouse

Hey Akash

Have you tried the data dictionary solution that Sal introduced? If you did, can you update on that? I'm actually trying to do research on something similar to your question.
