Hi,
I have no knowledge of php, linux or anything required here. I was a user; I know most of the stuff you can do from Magento but I am having real problem installing it. I have a hosting and they only offer cPanel. I have tried step by step videos from youtube but I am getting stuck on 500 Internal Server error. I found out it has something to do with .htaccess file and index.php permissions. I would appreciate if someone can put a ready to go .htaccess file, I found one but haven't tired it yet. It was for 1.6.x I want to use 1.9.3.2 (hosting is only supporting php 5.4 so can't do 2.x versions.
Find the following line in .htaccess:
Header append Vary User-Agent env=!dont-vary
and remove it completely.
If that doesn't help, try to find logs of your apache/nginx and PHP, it must show the reason of error 500. It can be accessed from cPanel, probably.
Nope that didn't work, let me explain a bit more, I have extracted the magento files to public_html folder, I can access anything before extracting files to this folder, I have tried several simple pages and they work. As soon as as I extract the files I get 500 Internal Server Error. The tutorials on youtube ask us to make a phpinfo.php file to check the php.ini file. But after extraction I don't have access to any file in public_html folder, even a simple html file can't be accessed. I have posted this under videos but no response yet.
If I rename the .htaccess file I get access to phpinfo.php and I can start installing magento but not with the current .htaccess file.

You'll have to find your apache error log file in order to find what went wrong, that's the only right way. Otherwise, we can just keep guessing what's wrong with it.
In meantime, try to replace:
#RewriteBase /magento/
with:
RewriteBase /
Sorry that didn't work either, what will happen if I remove .htaccess?
It will not work as it should unless you insert those configuration settings from .htaccess to PHP configuration file. But it would be solving the issue on wrong place.
Find apache2 error logs and it will tell you what the issue was about.

No, that's apache access log. You need apache error log. I'm not sure how your environment looks like, neither is it your local cPanel on your own server, or you're using Magento on shared hosting. Either way, if there is no apache error log in cPanel, you'll have to find it manually, and it's usually in /var/log/apache2/... or /var/log/httpd/...
