I have a client who already uses the current version of Magento. They're starting a new store and would like to start on Magento 2. I noticed Magento 2 is in beta, but that can mean different things for different projects.
Is Magento 2 secure enough to start using within the next 6 months (keeping up with updates)? I'm assuming beta means they're just working through the kinks, but it's pretty much ready to go?
Any information would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

As for now Magento 2 Dev RC, which is not ready yet for merchants, just for developers. We are wokring on delivering Merchant Beta which will be in Q3, at the point it will be ready for merchants, but on own risk.
Hope I answered your quesitons.
Your best bet would be using Magento 2 for projects in 2016, I wouldn't want to launch anyone on Magento 2 this year.
It's far too risky IMO. From a security standpoint the number of production Magento 2 sites in Q3 will be so low you will have a giant target on your back.
