magento ce 1.6.0.2 upgraded to 1.9.2.4 keeps running sql install

I always backup, but was hoping to get the upgrade to work. The install was done via an SSH session with this link http://astrio.net/blog/magento-upgrade-guide/. I have used it before with good results, but not this time I keep getting mostly

SQLSTATE[42S01]: Base table or view already exists: 1050 Table

with every sql update or install It is as if magento keeps running the install? at fires is was just core_resource table but now it rotates though them all I have tried deleting and them it may load a page one time and the next the sql updates start all over?

Any way I can stop this?

Will you please try reinstalling again but this time manually or using CPanel. Let me know if you are facing any error except this during upgrade.

If you still face problem, let me know with detailed error log and description.
