Magento 2 data migration FAQs from UB Data Migration real use cases

[RESOURCES] It’s obvious that Magento database itself and migration is a complicated process. 

We are lucky to have chance to work on pretty much Magento data migration projects so far. And we run across various questions users had raised to us, from real use cases with our migration tool. 

We find that many users share such common questions, so we made it into a FAQs and would like to share here.

Just want to add an additional note that even though the FAQs is specific for our migration tool, yet it's still helpful in case you use other migration tool at your choice. It will reveal some aspects you should take into consideration before starting migration project. 

A few questions you will find in the FAQs: 

• Q. Is it a must to migrate Magento 1 database to a fresh Magento 2 instance? 
• Q. Does the UB Data Migration Pro change the URLs structure of categories, products? 
• Q. Can I use your UB Data Migration Pro tool to do an initial migration while we are setting up / designing our Magento 2 store? Then do another sync and get any new orders / customers etc when we are ready to go live?
• Q. Will customer passwords be migrated over? Or will customers need to set a new password?
• Q. I receive a lot of error message related to maximum characters when migrating Sales data. For instance: Mage2SalesOrder: Base Total is too long (maximum is 12 characters).
• Q. Does the migration tool migrates all static blocks, CMS pages, widgets etc. Please specify what data will be transferred. 
• Q. I run across Nginx 504 Gateway time-out issue, how to fix this issue? 
• Q. What is the right folders / files permission for UB Data Migration Pro to run properly?

Oct 10, 2016 Update: We've just released a big update UB Data Migration Pro v3. It now supports delta migration, Command-Line Interface and much more. So some of our old FAQs mentioned above are out of date. 

PS. With the new V3 version, you no longer need a fresh Magento 2 instance. It's possible to migrate into a M2 instance with existing data.
