Setting Up Store Views

Does anyone know of a good resource for showing me how to setup different store views that work with different urls? 

Ive tried going through the dev docs for this but they are of no help.

all those sites have the same information on them as many others and none of them actually get you to the end point of having a store setup that runs from the same inventory. 

This is the problem I am finding with Magento 2 is its extremely poor documentation to achieve tasks such as this. If a piece of software relies on random web articles to answer functions then its starting to stray into a poorly developed piece of software.
