OK, I am confused by the fact that the documentation states:
Developer mode
You should run the Magento software in developer mode when you’re extending or customizing it.
In developer mode:
- Static view files are not cached; they are written to the Magento pub/static directory every time they’re called
However, after I install a fresh 2.1 on my Windows AMPPS development machine, then set developer mode and disable cache, loading up the backend results in missing static content (the icons for the menus and such).
If I look at \pub\static\adminhtml\Magento\backend\en_US
There are several folders but no files. I thought the whole purpose of using developer mode was that you weren't relying on cached static files. I guessed that the system would still place static files (on every page load) in the pub\static area and then use those for serving up web pages. Therefore, I could continue developing my stylesheets and such and always expect that my changes would be picked up on every page load.
What am I missing here?
