Products added to category via Category Products are not saved

Hi, 

I'm using Magento v 1.9.2.4

I have a top level category titled "Widgets", which ~1600 products and several child categories. 

If I go to the "Category Products" tab when editing a category (after clicking on the "Widgets" folder icon on the left hand tree) and set a custom product position and then click "Save", the product is removed from the "Widgets" category. 

Additionally, sometimes the product sort is not saved.

This only happens for the "Widgets" category. Other categories work fine. 

Can anyone help restore my sanity?

Hi @rjallport,

Maybe there are too much product and the HTTP POST is too lagre. I can't find a link right now but I remember some very old issues about something like this with categories with a lot of products.

I can see other categories with similar numbers of products/sub categories that work fine.

Can you check on system.log and exception.log (and maybe on your webserver error log) if there's any related message?
