Sudenly lost my System menu option from Admin panel.

i appreciate the advice.  I am just worried about patches, but you are right if it is working fine why upgrade.  At the present my other domain wants to upgrade to version 1.9.3.1  but most of the extensions I have installed say they only work with 1.9.2 

If I try to update to 1.9.3 do you think it will kill my extensions?

I would not even know where to find a developer to help, there are so many I do not know who to trust or who would price fairly.

I see your point.

I would do the following:

Clone my working site (1.9.2.3) to a brand new installation, and do a 1:1 clone. Then try the upgrade there.

Or contact every module/extension company and make sure that their module is compatible with the wanted Magento version.

Regarding the magento developer - try asking around - where are you located in the world ?
