URL Rewrites Issue

I feel absolutely moronic asking this, I can't shake the feeling this is a super simple fix, but here goes.

I have Product A. I no longer stock Product A, and the URL is 404ing. I want to redirect that URL towards the brand Product A is from, or potentially Product B which is similar.

What ends up happening is a new "/productb.2937" URL which also 404s.

Please tell me there's an easy way around this and I'm just having a brain fart!

Maybe you can use the URL redirect feature?
