Which Attribute Type for layered nav and filterable numeric value

I would like to put an Attribute called "Volume" to my Magento Online Shop. Products should be sorted by this attribute and it should be filterable through the layered navigation. since text attributes are not filterable in layered navigation and multi select fields not sortable i actually dont know how to acomplish that. any idea maybe ? i was thinking about a price attribute but then it would be there in EUROs not in Liters for example...

Would a dropdown attribute work? They can be used to sort listing by and filter too. I am guessing products cannot have more than one volume so they do not need to be a multi-select?

I would go by a "Global" attribute for all types of products. Make it a dropdown-type attribute and make is filterable in the frontend.

For sorting purpose, I would fill out the label values as shown is attached:

As for the the sorting I would go with numeric values as off: 100, 110, 120, 130, etc... Depending on how many options you need to present the customer (maybe 1000 or 10000 as values is needed) and the increase them by min. 10, so 1000, 1010, 1020 etc.
