Admin Path Change login loop

Recently placed our site front and backend into https://  then updated to magento 1.9.2.2. and followed supee-6788 instructions.

Everything in the instructions was going quite well everything was updated, form keys in place, downloader moved and renamed, all extensions working, website uninterrupted for the most part ....

AND THEN.........

Changing the admin path via the local.xml file created an admin login loop.

Why does this happen?

AND the admin path looks like this

https:// www.mydomainname.com /index.php/  mynewadmin /index/index/key/ somehugenumbergoeshere /

What is this all about????

Hi @BluGallagher,

Before upgrade were you using the custom admin path and url changed using admin settings?

No i was not using custom admin url before hand.
