Is a Firewall Essential for Magento Security?

Is a firewall considered essential in protecting a Magento installation, or is having fully patched and up to date version considered sufficient?

Hi @magento5050, firewall is essential for server security as a whole, and Magento web application is only part of it. While Magento may not be vulnerable (on post 80/443), you have to control/limit network activity related to other services/ports running on server.
