update sample data

Hello I found a fee hostin to make some test with 1.9 version.

I wuold like to update the sample data but i read that the sample data have to be updated before the installation, is it correct?

There is an alternative way to update the data after intallation too??

Yes, you will need to load the sample data in the database before installation, not after. 

Is there any reason that you can't just reinstall everything since you are just testing it out?

Tenchically it's not just sample data -- it's a full database dump + media files + skin files. How to install it? Unpack your Magento, copy media and skin files to appropriate locations, create database, import sample dump into database, run magento and make it to use preinstalled dump. It's actually very simple; all you need is to make sure that you get the right version of sample database.

Aaaand it's kind of big. 300MB-s is way too much for sample data.
