Cannot edit anything in Magento 1.8 admin

Hi,

Problems are:

Cannot upload images to product pages, it allows me to select the image but then does nothing afterwards.

Cannot change links in social icons extention on our theme (smartwave/porto) - It says "saved" but it's the same link it was before.

Cannot change the secure base url - again it says it's saved but it's the same as it was before.

Also i'm not able to insert images to CMS pages due to the upload issue above.

Why has magento stopped allowing me to change anything? 

I am only now able to upload images using software called magento store manager.

Any ideas what the problem is?

When you perform any task in admin, please check the console. If there is any error listed in thie file or not? Same way check the system.log and exception.log file for errors. If there are any error displayed there, please specify that error here or try to fix it.

Problem turned out to be an issue with the htaccess file, specifically it was rewriting to get rid of index.php which was stopping any changes within the admin panel.

You need to change the URL for both Magento frontend as well as magento admin. Then your do not face any problem.
