Sync data from management software to Magento

Hi,

We are trying to sync a management software with magento database through trigger.

Are there some guide that help us to map database and build a software to magento data correspondance?

We do a search but there are lot of old stuff:

If you have time and budget, I would suggest you sync through API, as DB structure may change, your script works now may not work later if there's a major magento update, but API will adapt it.
