Patch install

Hello there,
I want to install patches via SSH. I use Putty.
After entering I always get the message:
No such file or directory.
The file is in the root but in it. Root but is where all files such as: app, backup, downloader, errors .... are there. Or?

Does anyone have an idea or help?
Would love it even do himself.

Thanks for checking aid.
Unfortunately, I can not do to install with instructions.
I'm not the best in English and I'm not the expert.
Are you still a different idea?
