Caching issue white screen of death

Hi

I keep on getting a white screen every now and then. Emptying the cache folder always fixes the problem. Has anyone come across this issue before? There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it.

I think I have found the issue. Apparently Magento does not clear out the cache directory so it gets so big that it eventually crashes the site. I have found this blog that suggests to run a bash script on a cron job to clear the cache, sessions and report directory every 12 hours.
