Greetings,
I have quite few errors in the frontend due to my current theme [Porto] and I would like to change it. I know how to download and install a new theme, but the obvious result is that everything is **bleep**ed up. It goes from this:
To this:
How do I change theme effectively?
Which theme are you trying to install?
May be you did not copy the java script and css files of new theme properly.
If it is a live site please share the url.
Greetings @Mukesh Tiwari and thank you for you reply.
For now I'm just trying to use the Default theme. My website is https://www.cosedelposto.com/
The site looks ok, may be you reverted to old theme.
Can you share the specific page url where you faced the issue.
You should try to install the new theme on you development server or localhost setup first before installing on the production site.
You may also share the screenshot of the browser console for the page where the page design is messed up. It may help to provide better answer.
Greetings @Mukesh Tiwari
[I mistakenly accepted as a solution, just wanted to hit reply instead]
Yes, I reverted back to the old theme. I cannot possibly run a website that looks like the screenshot I made. Sadly I do not have a development area or localhost setup and can only do such modifications in the live version.
Could you please help me with what you were saying before about installing correctly a theme? Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Feel free to suggest a theme if you want.
(I have reverted accepted solution).

to learn installing a theme
I tried to upload via FTP a downloaded theme and applying it; the whole website crashed and I had to restore the old files.
Could you please suggest me a good template for Magento 1.9.4.1? It doesn't have to be free, just food-oriented.
You may search for themes on Google you will find free as well as paid theme links there.
I searched on this site https://themeforest.net/category/ecommerce/magento?platform=Magento%201.9.3.x&term=food#content
Which ever site you select check the demo of the theme and purchase the theme whivh is compatible with your Magento version 1x or 2x.
To be safer side you can get a staging site instance with your production site like https://www.stage.cosedelposto.com/it/ it will be a sub domain of main site.
