I've been running a Magento store for several years. I have a new install almost ready and plan to import orders and customers. I would like to add the products from scratch for a few reasons- changing the attribute structure for most of the products and ensuring we revise all descriptions and images.
Assuming I use new product ID numbers assigned by my new Magento install, how will this react from a history point of view? Will customers previous orders be messed up? Will this affect reporting?
Is there any trick to manually changing the product ID or does anyone know of a way I can assign the product ID while adding the product?
Is there anything else I am not taking into account that I should think about before committing to this plan of action?
