What are Magento conventions?

I have a problem with downloading my extension. I see a message like "name.tgz doesn't follow magento conventions". Could anyone help please?

Hi, where do you see this message? Is it when downloading from Magento Marketplace? Can you share the exact message that you see so that we can help identify the cause. Also, knowing which extension you are trying to download may be important.
