payment method defaulting to 0 (i.e disabling) automatically after being enabled

hi there

I've got a conundrum whereby I'm setting the Credit Card payment option to enabled in admin and saving it fine. Then a few minutes later when I go to check the site it's disabled itself again.

I've also changed it manually in the core_config table in the db from 0 to 1 to enable to see if it's somehow not writing to the database and it does exactly the same thing if I do it this way aswell.

I can't figure out why this is happending - does anyone have any similiar experiences with this.

I'm using 1.9
