Configurable Product Images

I have been having the problem for weeks and I cannot seem to get my head around it. Basically, I have a configurable product setup with three simple products as configurable options.

When an option is selected in the dropdown the image doesn't change as it should. The description does change but duplicates. Does anyone have any idea why this happens? I'm using RWD theme v 1.9.0.1 for reference.

The ability to make image change when some definite variant is selected from drop-down (aka swatches functionality) has been introduced in Magento 1 starting from version 1.9.1 and is avail in this and higher versions. So if you are using earlier version you either upgrade your Magento or use some extension that supports this functionality.
