http://arborcollective.com is a wordpress site, with a cool frontpage design. 
How does i do this in magento? with the 4 frontpage images that are clickable. thanks

Well you could use the one-column layout for this homepage. I'd say 1 col layout with one static block to manage/update the hero images will do the job. 

If this is too much, then you can purchase an off the shelf theme and install it on your store.
