I have just updated to 1.9.3 and now find that the order confirmation emails (and only the order confirmation emails) are not being sent out.
I use SMTPPro to handle my emails and if I place a test order no initial confirmation is sent to either the customer or the store owner. But once an invoice is created the emails go out, and when the product is shipped the emails are sent. Also the contact form is working correctly to send an email to store owner.
SMTPPro shows the invoice and shipping sent emails in the logs, but has nothing for the order confirmation.
Any ideas please? I'm stumped.

I think I may have fixed this.
In SMTPPro I set Queue Configuration -> Queue Usage to "Never".
A test order now correctly sends the confirmation email. I have no idea why this should make any difference to just one type of email.
