Magento thousands of image management

Magento thousands of image management

We're going to implement 360 view of images for Magento and wondering what's the best approach to handling the images for it. Each product will have 9 images on it and it's over 4000 products. Will it be best to upload it through FTP through a different folder? We are going to use Laravel framework and retrieving Magento api.

Do people normally just use the admin image uploader? I'm wondering if other people have easier options to upload thousands of images (36,000+ images).

Hello @isabelchua0356

Please follow the steps below in order to implement a 360 view of images for Magento 2:

  • Prepare your images:
    • First, you need to have a series of images that show the product from different angles. You can take these photos yourself or get them from a supplier or manufacturer.
  • Install a 360-image viewer extension:
    • There are several 360 image viewer extensions available for Magento 2. You can choose one that suits your needs and budget. Some popular extensions are Magic 360 and 360 Product Viewer.
  • Configure the extension:
    • After installing the extension, you need to configure it according to your requirements. This involves specifying the location of your images, the size and position of the viewer, and other settings.
  • Add the viewer to your product pages:
    • Once the extension is configured, you can add the 360 image viewer to your product pages. This can be done by editing the product page template or using a content management system (CMS) block.
  • Test the viewer:
    • Finally, you should test the viewer to make sure it works correctly. You can do this by viewing the product page and checking that the viewer displays the images properly and allows you to rotate the product.

To Upload 360 View Product Images:

  • Whether it's best to upload images through FTP to a different folder depends on your specific needs and circumstances. However, there are some potential benefits to uploading images to a different folder than the main website directory:
  • Organization:
    • By uploading images to a separate folder, you can keep your website files and images organized and separate. This can make it easier to find specific files and make updates or changes as needed.
  • Security:
    • Uploading images to a different folder can help to increase the security of your website. If an attacker gains access to your website, they may be able to delete or modify files in the main directory, but if your images are stored in a separate folder, they may not be able to access or manipulate them.
  • Load times:
    • Storing images in a separate folder can improve website load times, as it can help to reduce the overall size of your website files. This is because images can be quite large, and separating them out into their own folder can prevent them from slowing down the loading of other website content.

Overall, while there may be benefits to uploading images through FTP to a separate folder, it ultimately depends on your specific needs and goals for your website.
