Also, there is an extension for disabling compare products functionality http://magery-themes.com/disable-compare-magento2.html
You can also remove it by adding:
<referenceBlock name="catalog.compare.sidebar" remove="true"/>
In the following file:
app/design/frontend/MyCompany/MyTheme/Magento_Catalog/layout/default.xml
