Removing Footer Links in Magento 2.3.4

Hi,

I have been struggling to remove the footer links (Search terms, privacy policy, etc...) and newsletter (on the right hand side) in my inherited luma theme. I have tried out my file in my app/design/frontend/mystore/customluma/Magento_Theme/layout/default.xml. But with no success. Does anyone know what is the correct way?
