Free Shipping Progress Bar in Minicart

I found a nice free shipping progress bar Link but it only displays on the edit cart screen. I want it to display in the minicart and found This Tutorial that supposedly can do it while making it, but the tutorial seems broken.

Then I found This Tutorial that is just to show the discount amount in the minicart, and this one works. I just am not sure how to adapt it to get the progress bar there.

Was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction or give me any advice/hints.
