How can I override cart/item/default.phtml to make a small change to product list in cart

I'm trying to make a small change to shopping car page's product list.

I followed this guide, but it did not work.

How can make changes to that product list, especially I need to change the product name inside a-tags to show custom attribute instead of product name?
