Lot Number

We are looking for the best way to track lot numbers for our food items in Magento 2.  Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

Can you explain a little more what the "Lot" number is? I'm not sure if a lot number for a food item is the SKU or something completely different and related to transactions.
