Magento 2 - can't see categories when elasticsearch is down

I noticed that when my elasticsearch is down (and trust me it happens too often), I do not see the categories anymore. I only see a message "WE CAN'T FIND PRODUCTS MATCHING THE SELECTION."

 

When I restart my elasticsearch , I need to reindex the whole shop!

 

Is that a normal behaviour???

Hi,

Magento 2.4 used elasticsearch, and it is mandatory from Magento ver 2.4 and above. When elasticsearch is down, you will not be able to save products, get products in categories etc.
Elasticsearch must be enabled all the time. Otherwise, products will not show in category page. Even orders will not be placed.
