Show "Contact Us" form in modal with Ajax submit?

I need to show the default contact form in a modal and then submit the form using Ajax then show the contents of a static block in the modal to display a "thank you" message. I believe when I'm going wrong is in my controller. This is what I have:

<?php

namespace AdamGreenwell\ContactUs\Controller\Index;

use Magento\Contact\Model\ConfigInterface;
use Magento\Contact\Model\MailInterface;
use Magento\Framework\App\Action\Context;
use Magento\Framework\App\Request\DataPersistorInterface;
use Magento\Framework\Controller\Result\Redirect;
use Magento\Framework\Exception\LocalizedException;
use Magento\Framework\HTTP\PhpEnvironment\Request;
use Psr\Log\LoggerInterface;
use Magento\Framework\App\ObjectManager;
use Magento\Framework\DataObject;
use Magento\Framework\UrlFactory;
use Magento\Framework\Controller\ResultFactory;
use Magento\Customer\Model\Session\Interceptor;

class Ajaxcontact extends \Magento\Contact\Controller\Index
{
    /**

    private $dataPersistor;

    /**

    private $context;

    /**

    private $mail;

    /**

    private $logger;

            );
            $this->dataPersistor->set('contact_us', $this->getRequest()->getParams());
        }
        return $this->_view->getLayout()->createBlock('Magento\Cms\Block\Block')->setBlockId('contact_submission_successful')->toHtml();
    }

            $post['email'],
            ['data' => new DataObject($post)]
        );
    }

    /**
     * @return bool
     */
    private function isPostRequest()
    {
        /** @var Request $request */
        $request = $this->getRequest();
        return !empty($request->getPostValue());
    }

    /**
     * @return array
     * @throws \Exception
     */
    private function validatedParams()
    {
        $request = $this->getRequest();
        if (trim($request->getParam('firstname')) === '') {
            throw new LocalizedException(__('First name is missing'));
        }
        if (trim($request->getParam('lastname')) === '') {
            throw new LocalizedException(__('Last name is missing'));
        }
        if (trim($request->getParam('comment')) === '') {
            throw new LocalizedException(__('Message is missing'));
        }
        if (false === \strpos($request->getParam('email'), '@')) {
            throw new LocalizedException(__('Invalid email address'));
        }
        if (trim($request->getParam('hideit')) !== '') {
            throw new \Exception();
        }
        return $request->getParams();
    }
}

This is how I am sending the request:

<script>
    require([
        'jquery',
        'mage/mage'
    ], function ($) {
        var dataForm = $('#contact-form');
        dataForm.mage('validation', {});

        $('.contact-submit').on('click', function () {
            if (dataForm.validation('isValid')) {
                var formData = new FormData();
                $.ajax({
                    url: '<?php echo $this->getUrl('contactus/index/ajaxcontact'); ?>',
                    data: formData,
                    processData: false,
                    contentType: "application/json",
                    showLoader: true,
                    type: 'POST',
                    dataType: 'json',
                    success: function (response) {
                        if (!response.errors) {
                            if (response.redirectUrl) {
                                location.href = response.redirectUrl;
                            }
                        } else {
                            $(' .contact-us .messages .message div').text(response.message);
                            $(' .contact-us .messages .message').show();
                            setTimeout(function () {
                                $('.contact-us .messages .message').hide();
                            }, 5000);
                        }
                    }
                });
                return false;
            }
        })
    });
</script>

But it's not working. Where am I going wrong?

Try this

<p><a href="javascript&colon;void(0)" class="open-contact-form">Open Contact Form</a></p>

<div id="popup-modal">
	<div class="contact-form-popup" style="display: none;">
		<?php echo $this->getLayout()
			->createBlock("Magento\Contact\Block\ContactForm")
			->setTemplate("Magento_Contact::form.phtml")
			->toHtml(); ?>
	</div>
	<div class="static-block-message" style="display: none;">
		<?php echo $this->getLayout()
        		->createBlock('Magento\Cms\Block\Block')
        		->setBlockId('your_block_identifier')
        		->toHtml(); ?>
	</div>
</div>

<script>
require(
    [
        'jquery',
        'Magento_Ui/js/modal/modal'

Wonderful! Thank you very much!

I was making the whole process much harder than it had to be. Thank you again, that helped tremendously.
