Configurable product image doesn't change when selected on product page

Hi, 

I am using Magento v2.1.7 

When on the product page the colour swatch is selected the main product image does not change. 

no matter what I tried to complete, nothing solves the issue. 

Has anyone found a solution? As there seems to be an issue already with others see here: https://github.com/magento/magento2/issues/9965

In order to get product image change when customer clicks on the swatch image, you have also to assign corresponding images (and mark it as base) to your associated simple products.

Thanks but I am not using 'store Manager'

If you could expand on what you mean.  That would be great.
