Corrupted var/ folder permissions

Hi,

Magento CE 2.3.3: Today Magento wouldn't let me create any new customers or orders, throwing an error about privileges. After searching, multiple people suggested doing a "chmod 755 -R var/" so I did that, which immediately broke the rest of my site.

Can I replace my var folder with the var folder from yesterday's backup, to at least get the rest of my site back up and running?

Is this a known Magento bug?

Extension conflict?

There is issue of permission of the files and the filesystem ownership
