Magento 2.1- Module install fail - var/update.log gone crazy

Hi everyone,

first the basics;

CentOS7 VPS, with Plesk Onyx, PHP 5.6.28 (site and CLI) , MariaDB 10.1.19 with Nginx, and FPM as an application run by APache

Problem:

Module install through Admin causes server to hang on 'pending'

Most interestingly, the /var/upgrade.log file is being flooded with over 50 repeated entries a second like ;

[] [2016-11-30 00:44:29] update-cron.INFO: Job "maintenance_mode {"enable":true}" has successfully completed []

obviously the log file gets very large, very quickly.

After a massive permissions headache, we managed to get cron set up, with the documented recommended settings, with a separate magento file system owner that is running the cron jobs normally without error.

crons show as fail to complete with error in plesk when trying to install a module.

thanks in advance people!!

SOLVED!!!

I Managed to solve it by wiping and reinstalling using browser setup rather than the plesk app install method.

There is clearly some error in the Plesk magento App install files.
