Great thread! Adding custom JS in Magento 2 definitely requires precision—I've run into similar challenges before. The requirejs-config.js and layout XML method usually works best for me, especially when clearing cache and running setup:static-content:deploy.
I recently helped customize a menu interaction on a site listing Cookout’s milkshake flavors, and integrating location-based JS made a big difference for the UX. If anyone’s working on front-end enhancements like that, you might get some creative ideas from this milkshake menu breakdown . It’s a simple example, but shows how dynamic JS can elevate user interaction.
Thanks for sharing all the code snippets—super helpful!
Oh this sounds like when I try to fix my toy but miss a screw! 😄 For Magento 2, maybe check if you added your JS file in requirejs-config.js? Sometimes the file is in the right place but Magento doesn’t know it’s there. And did you run setup:upgrade and clear the cache? Magento likes when we tell it “Hey, I added something new!”
Hope your client site Apkinstal works like magic soon
