Upgrade from Magento 2.4.1 to Magento 2.4.6

I intend to migrate my site from Magento 2.4.1 to Magento 2.4.6.
My Magento 2.4.1 is using PHP version 7.4. 

I have been made to understand by my developer that Magento 2.4.6 requires PHP version 8.2.

He says to do this change requires a whole new hosting server setup and will require many hours due to the many customized modules used on my site.

I am currently hosting my site on Nexcess.

Is this true? 
How possible is it to do this upgrade easily by a developer?

To migrate from Magento 2.4.1 to Magento 2.4.6, check the actual PHP requirement for Magento 2.4.6 (might not be PHP 8.2). Upgrading the PHP version can be complex and may need a new hosting setup. Custom modules must be tested for compatibility. Work with an experienced developer, use a staging environment for testing, and back up your site before any changes.

According to this post, the PHP version required is PHP 8.1 or PHP 8.2.

If you are planning to upgrade the store to 2.4.6, it supports PHP 8.1/8.2. 

You have also mentioned a lot of custom work you have done in your website, which means you need a significant amount of time and effort to make sure everything works well and there are no surprises later on.
