web setup wizard Issue

Hello. 

I had my host install new Centos version 7 .. due to outdated libcurl , after going through all setting , magento works , however , setup wizard stuck in Checking for a new version...

under there is a pinkish box with X and no message in it . before upgrade , wizard did work but due to out dated libcurl , only got message about SSL . 

What might be the issue ?

Well, i decided to fix permission on my files. once done , now i get 401 error when i lunch setup wizard .. 

i managed to upgrade magento using composer ,but i really like and need to fix this issue .
