2019 was a fantastic year for contributions and community involvement. During the year our contributors created over 8,000 pull requests across Magento GitHub repositories! Even more exciting is that over 8,500 were processed, meaning we made a significant dent in the backlog! We would like to extend a big thank you to all our contributors, maintainers and partners that did awesome work constantly iterating on Magento projects. We want to take some time and make some space in this post to look back at 2019 and highlight the amazing achievements of the community.
2019 was extraordinarily full of events:
Our community has grown a lot during the past year, and we used this opportunity to start several new projects!
Shout out to the awesome Adobe Stock Integration team that built the project from scratch and marched toward the first release of the project which is slated for the end of this month!
To name but a few of the project regulars:
Thank you so much!
We also had several other new community projects spring up during the year too:
Last month we wrote about our march toward the upcoming Magento 2.4 release and in that blog post we discussed the incredible achievements of the GraphQL project during the course of last year. Check the post out to get a taste of what that project has accomplished!
After successful completion of the Magento Asynchronous API and Bulk API projects, the next step of our planned Asynchronous track work was implementing Asynchronous Magento Import. This feature has the potential to replace the default Magento import functionality. The project was started in the middle of 2019 and led by Oleksandr Lyzun of comwrap. This effort intends to make the import process more flexible, performant and stable. After multiple architectural planning discussions, project development is currently underway and the first version is planned to be released in the middle of this year.
Many thanks to Alex Vasiliev of comwrap, who participated in the Magento Bulk API project and is still working with us on the Asynchronous Import project and to Hitarth Pattani who actively took part in prototyping the first drafts of the project. Last, big shoutout to all developers who invested their time in helping move the project forward.
The Multi Source Inventory (MSI) community project is designed to enable stock management in multiple locations so that merchants can properly reflect their physical inventory in Magento without having to use extensions or customization. The community is integral to this project and we are thankful for the continued involvement of some of our top project champions:
We are also very proud to announce our GitHub top contributors! We deeply appreciate these people and the huge amount of work they accomplished to make Magento better:

Magento is lucky to have a dedicated Community Maintainers team made up of community champions helping the project process issues and pull requests. From verifying and triaging issues to reviewing, accepting and rejecting pull requests, Community Maintainers are the heartbeat of the Magento ecosystem.
We are excited to share some of the stats showing off the amazing results of the year, mostly thanks to our Community Maintainers, starting with pull requests:
Similar visualization for issues:
Our maintainers team 👨👩👧👦 is growing as well. At the end of 2019 the team more than doubled in size, with 41 members comparing to 18 members in 2018!
On top of our top GitHub contributors, we wanted to particularly highlight our top Community Maintainers from 2019. A special shoutout to Yaroslav Rogoza, Lyzun Oleksandr and Oleksandr Kravchuk for being not only a top Community Maintainer in 2019 but also cracking the Top Individual GitHub Contributors list - truly impressive!
