In an effort to encourage customers to use supported versions of Magento, the Magento Marketplace is implementing a new policy for extensions, themes and shared packages compatible with versions of Magento that have reached the end of their support life.
When a Magento version has reach the end of support life, we will do the following:
- Extensions and themes claiming compatibility with that version of Magento only will be removed from Magento Marketplace
- New extensions, themes and shared packages will not have the option to claim compatibility with that Magento version during the submission process
Please review the policy for Open Source (End of Magento-provided Security Maintenance column) and Commerce (End of Software Support column) to understand when a Magento version is no longer supported.
What is the impact of this policy?
- All extensions and themes compatible with only one of the following versions of Magento will be removed on 4/22:
- Community Edition 1.1.x
- Community Edition 1.2.x
- Community Edition 1.3.x
- Community Edition 1.4.x
- Community Edition 2.0.x
- Enterprise Edition 1.6.x
- Enterprise Edition 1.7.x
- Enterprise Edition 1.8.x
- Enterprise Edition 2.0.x
- Starting 4/22, new extension, theme and shared package submissions will not have the option to select compatibility with the above Magento versions.
What is not impacted by this policy?
- Extensions and themes that list compatibility with one of the above versions of Magento as well as other versions (ex. 2.0, 2.1 & 2.2) will remain on Magento Marketplace
- Extensions, themes and shared packages that list compatibility with one of the above versions of Magento as well as other versions (ex. 2.0, 2.1 & 2.2) will be allowed to continue to submit new versions of their code.
- Customers who have purchased one of the extensions or themes removed from Magento Marketplace will still have entitlements to download.
It’s also important to note that later this year, the following versions of Magento will reach end of support life. Be aware of these dates as well:
- Community Edition & Enterprise Edition 2.1.x – June 2019
- Open Source 2.2.x – September 2019
- Commerce 2.2.x – December 2019
