Re: Is Adobe planning to remove open source feature from Magento ?

There are two versions of Magento. There's Adobe Commerce, which was formerly known by names including Magento Commerce, Magento Enterprise Edition, and Magento EE. Then there's the more popular Magento Open Source, formerly known as Magento Community Edition or Magento CE.

The Adobe team has been quite clear about their intention to continue to operate Magento Open Source edition for the foreseeable future. They very recently addressed this at the Magento Association's Connect event in October 2021. Here are some notable recordings from that event:

Aside from the words of individuals, I can also point to some facts. Magento PageBuilder was recently added to Magento Open Source - a move that Adobe did not need to make. Additionally, the Magento Association, just seated its first Magento Open Source Task Force to help foster communication between the Magento Community at large and Adobe.

None of this is to suggest that Adobe doesn't make mistakes, or that they're doing a perfect job as the stewards of Magento Open Source, but they continue to signal their commitment to the platform.

There is also a strong community around this platform, and new tech, like the Hyva theme that's helping to propel Magento Open Source forward. As with most open-source solutions, the continued success of Magento Open Source is as much about the community as it is about the leadership of Adobe or whichever organization is overseeing it.
