PayPal Best Practices to Increase Conversion

Would you like to increase checkout conversion?  The following bullets are some best practices to increase checkout conversion:

 

  • Enable Express Checkout Shortcut.  In earlier versions of Magento, you have the option to enable this feature on the Shopping Cart or Product page.  In later versions, it is defaulted on.  This feature reduces the amount of information a customer has to type about themselves (billing address, shipping address, etc).  By enabling this feature, you can increase checkout conversion.
  • Guest Checkout.  For buyers who do not have a PayPal account or choose to pay with their credit card, enable this feature on.  You don’t need to get a separate gateway account, you don’t need to become PCI complaint, you can still receive the same level of PayPal protection by simply enabling this on.   Not only do you have a trusted PayPal brand name, but you don’t have to spend more money or time searching for a gateway provider to process your Visa, MasterCard, etc transactions.
  • Enable line items.  Customers need to trust and be confident of what they are purchasing.  Enabling this feature allows the customer to see the taxes, quantity, etc  involved with their purchase.  Using line items will eliminate any confusion and may reduce unpleasant chargebacks.
  • Sort Order.  Make PayPal the first option when you offer multiple payment options. Type in 0 to make PayPal the first option, in doing so, you may reduce friction by not asking buyers to type more information about themselves.
  • Billing Agreements.  If you have repeat buyers, enable billing agreements to allow customers to charge their profile again without having to log into their PayPal account.  Instead, during the checkout the customer chooses to use their billing agreement as their payment method.

  • Braintree Payments.  Braintree helps increase sales, reduce risk, and deliver a better customer experience. In addition to accepting credit/debit cards, this extension also supports PayPal Express Checkout which is another payment option in Braintree.
